Schaefer Winter
December was one of the coldest, snowiest winters on record in South Bend. With
43 inches for December, South Bend had the 2nd most snow on the ground in
the nation. The snow was so thick we all worried about our roofs. Most roads
lost 6 feet of width.
Now at the end of January, you can still see most of December's snow and
for the first time we are getting a little new. At least most of the
roofs have shed most of the snow load thanks to the helpful sun and
days that hovered at 27-33 degrees F.
Here are a couple of images from our winter.
Daniel had just come in from working on his snow fort, the largest mound of snow in the neighborhood.
As we watched the snow build up on the deck into a pretty pillow, the deck pulled away
from the house and collapsed giving rise to the statement: "You can shovel me now, or you can shovel me later."
